With the @nbaacademy’s @khaman_maluach being drafted last night in the NBA Draft (and having watched him play at the @thebal a few years ago) we can’t help but think about the dreams of another South Sudanese sportsman, Joseph Wani. @joseph__wani who at 17 moved from Juba to Kenya to pursue his dreams of playing baseball in Nairobi at the Nairobi Field of Dreams. This video is of Joseph pitching at the after party of @angelsatbat Tucheze Tournament a few weeks ago in Kongoni in Kakamega in Western Kenya. The vibe is real but more importantly the gathering storm of baseball players across the continent is building up and that’s real too. Our focus as an org is not to create a player “pipeline” for the @mlb - we want kids to have places to play and for their dreams to come true - whether they are on the draft stage, the university graduation stage, or on their local pitching mound where everyone is watching and hanging on every pitch. Every dream is valid. We know Joseph Wani has his sights set on bigger stages and we know he’ll put the work in. Keep dreaming @joseph__wani you’ll get to where you’re going. For now, you’re already there - living the dream. Trust the process! “Living in Africa, I had the whole continent on my back, giving hope to young kids, inspiring young kids, the next generation of African basketball” - thanks @khaman_maluach for your delusional dreams!

“Tunacheza” - Swahili for “we are playing” - is the rallying cry of a new generation of Kenyan baseball players. This powerful new short video tells the story of the inaugural season of Nairobi Little League, launched by @ifwebuildit_org in early 2025 alongside various community members and partners (thanks @basi.go & Burness) who stepped to the plate to help young people and local communities grow stronger through play over the last 6 months.

With 150 boys and girls (ages 9–12) from 8 teams across Nairobi - including communities like Kibera and Kibagare - the pilot season is creating more than just baseball players. It’s building a culture of sportsmanship, teamwork, and youth leadership through monthly match days, youth-led officiating, and community mentorship.

The pilot season, with technical input and support from @littleleague International, the @baseballfederationof Kenya, and @angelsatbatcharity is also exploring how to scale Little League baseball across Nairobi and beyond

What began as a dream to build baseball fields has sparked a movement across the city and across Kenya. Backed by an official Little League charter, this is just the beginning for Nairobi Little League.

We’re building it and “we’re playing”.

@angelsatbatcharity has been a force for good in Kenyan baseball and baseball across Africa for nearly a decade - today we witnessed first hand the impact they’re having in Kenya during the first ever Tucheze Baseball tournament (16U) at the Kongoni baseball field (intermediate size - 70ft base paths) which they supported the construction of. Located in Kakamega County and a part of the Kongoni Community Network and Library, the baseball field has become a center piece in youth sports in the rural community. Such an amazing day of community and celebration - thanks to all the support from @angelsatbatcharity as a partner and friends. We’re so appreciative of your community spirit and collaboration- together we will go far! Tunjenga, tunacheza!

At the "SPORTS: BEYOND THE GAME – INVESTING IN KENYA’S SPORTS ECONOMY" session during the American Chamber of Commerce #USKenyaCreativeEconomyForum
our very own Thom Wallace, co-founder of IfWeBuildIt.org, joined a powerhouse lineup to explore how we can unlock Kenya’s sports economy through smart infrastructure, bold partnerships, and cross-sector collaboration.

He shared why investing in community-led sports infrastructure isn’t only about brick and mortar investments - when you invest in infrastructure the space for community to gather is created opening up opportunity, pathways to education, and developing key parts of the sports ecosystem that support economic growth.

Here are some other highlights:

🏛️ Hon. @edwinsifuna revealed efforts in the Senate to reform PPP laws for more transparent sports investments.

❄️ Robert O. Opiyo of @kenyaicehockey (Kenya Federation of Ice Sports) talked about how equipment costs remain a huge barrier- and partnerships are key to solve this challenge.

⚽ Sandra Kimokoti of @twendebasketball Sports emphasized the power of Kenya’s passionate fans—and the urgent need for real facilities to back their energy.

🎵 @savarafrica of @sautisol inspired with a call to connect music and sports as cultural and emotional forces for good.

🎤 All masterfully guided by the legendary @CarolRadull - whose vision keeps Kenya’s sports conversation sharp and future-focused.
