Projects & Initiatives

If We Build It began with a simple yet ambitious goal: build Nairobi's first baseball field and create an epicenter to support the growth of baseball and softball in Kenya. We've built it and people are playing, and so much more.

As a result, the Nairobi Field of Dreams has become an epicenter for a vibrant baseball community. We've grown stronger and we're  creating access to play, while also operating leagues and community development activities that grow access to the game, build opportunity and level the playing field for young people.

Our flagship project, the Nairobi Field of Dreams, is Kenya’s first dedicated baseball and softball complex. Located at JKUAT, it is a community-built field designed to host local leagues, school competitions, and international events - creating a home for the sport in Kenya and a hub for youth development through play.

Youth Skills & Leadership Events

IfWeBuildIt.org’s Youth Skills & Leadership Events go beyond the game, offering young athletes opportunities to grow both on and off the field.

Through skills clinics, coaching workshops, and leadership development sessions, we equip players and coaches with tools for success in sports and life. From practice on the field to training future coaches, from introducing sports business concepts to career readiness, these events help prepare youth for leadership roles in their communities and for the transition into adulthood and the workforce.

Nairobi Baseball Community Series

In its second season, the Nairobi Baseball Community Series brings together 8 teams (for players 18+) and over 150 players from across the city for 8 months of games, between local universities and club teams. Played at the Nairobi Field of Dreams the series is both competitive and a community gathering fostering a vibrant baseball culture and building connections across young adults and business professionals.

The series concludes with an Annual Nairobi Baseball Community Championship Festival in September.

"Field in a Box"

While decades of donations have brought bats, balls, gloves, and gear to Kenya and across Africa, many players still lack safe, dedicated spaces to play.

That’s why IfWeBuildIt.org is proud to partner with the Oriole Advocates Charitable Foundation to send a specialized shipment of field maintenance equipment - our first official “Field in a Box”- from Baltimore to Nairobi. This game-changing effort supports the development of Nairobi’s first baseball and softball complex and sets the stage for future field installations across the continent.

Delivery is expected for Mid-2025.

Nairobi Little League

Launched in 2025, Nairobi Little League’s pilot season features over 150 boys and girls (ages 9–12) from 8 teams representing communities across the city.

With an official Little League charter, the league builds foundational skills of play, sportsmanship, and teamwork through monthly match days, youth-led officiating, and active involvement from coaches and community mentors.

Lessons from this inaugural season will guide the development of a sustainable model for Little League programs across Nairobi and beyond.

#SheWill Play

#SheWillPlay is our commitment to growing girls' participation in baseball and softball. Through inclusion of women in league play, opportunities for women to organize and lead community events, and support of baseball and softball events for women's teams, we’re breaking down barriers and building a future where every girl can step up to the plate.
